It’s almost a given that at the end of any interview your interviewer will ask if you have any questions for them. This tends to stump a lot of candidates as they have failed to prepare any questions beforehand and it’s often difficult to think on the spot. Here are a couple of question ideas to get you started:
Ask about the training you would receive
It’s a good idea to ask your interviewer about the company’s training and induction plan. This shows that you have a real interest in the company and would be keen to learn from them from an early stage.
Ask about long term development
If you go in to the interview stating that you want to be CEO of the company within 5 years then they may not look favourably on you! However, showing some interest in the prospect of long-term progression within the company will let your interviewer know that you’re interested in a career with the company rather than using the job as a stop-gap.
Ask about the day to day company activities
Asking your interviewer about a typical day at the company will show them that you’re interested in seeing where you might fit in to their way of working. This gives you and the interviewer the opportunity to see whether the day to day role is suitable for both parties.
Ask your interviewer about their experiences with the company
People love talking about themselves, so show an interest in your interviewer’s experience with the company and listen well when they tell you. This will demonstrate your social communication and listening skills, which are important in any customer-facing role.
Ask about the company’s visions and values
You could lead into this by saying “I notice on your website that the company value… X, Y, Z.” Show an interest in the company and let them know that you’ve done plenty of background research and are keen to learn more. This is also a good opportunity for you to add any further points that highlight why you are right for the role.
At the end of the interview
Thank the interviewer for their time and make sure they have up-to-date contact details for you so that they can get in touch to make that job offer!
